Reports that smell blood have been coming once again from Gaza.
The Israel forces as usual have been suppressing the conflicts taking place in Palestine for the last two months, using bullets and missiles. Protests have been happening in Gaza and West Bank since the last week of March for the return of the Palestinians who were driven away from their homeland in 1948 through a military operation. More than 90 Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured over the past month and a half. It was amidst this that Israel and the US tried to realize the decision to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. When the ‘embassy change’ took place last Monday in the presence of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ivanka, the daughter of US President Donald Trump, the streets of Palestine literally became a scene of massacre. More than fifty people including infants were killed in a single day. The death toll has exceeded sixty. Different agencies report that thousands are battling death in Al Shifa Hospital and other places in Gaza. The world powers and institutions including the UN have so far not been ready to even denounce this highly heinous act beyond expressing the mere formalities.
When lakhs of Palestinians were being driven away from their homeland seven decades ago, the then Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion had said that ‘the old will die and the young will forget’ about the incident gradually. However, time later proved that his observation was wrong. The Palestinians started to commemorate the Nakba (Catastrophe) officially on the 50th anniversary of the 1948 exodus. Nakba is usually celebrated on May 15, the day after the Israeli Independence Day. On these days, the world witnessed the outcries for the return of the Palestinian refugees, gaining momentum. This genocide took place on the eve of such a day. The world leaders were not only reluctant to condemn the incident but tried to blatantly justify it. Only a few leaders such as Turkey’s President Erdogan and British Prime Minister Theresa May were ready to directly criticize Israel. Even the United Nations Chief lacked the courage to cite the ‘politics’ behind the incident. They are even now interested in blaming the organizations including Hamaz.
That this massacre is happening when Israeli is celebrating its seventieth anniversary is not a coincidence. The country has formulated several projects aimed at winning infallibility and better recognition before the global community. The relocation of US embassy was one of them, and that was a promise in Trump's election manifesto. The point Israel tries to establish through the embassy of a country like America functioning in Jerusalem, is that then it ceases to be occupied land. Hence the move by the Trump-Netanyahu duo is viewed by observers as a strategic intervention to suppress the Palestinian resistance. Israel is trying to get other countries' embassies also shifted to Jerusalem. In addition, the Zionist nation is also carrying out tactics to remove Palestine from the world map in consort with countries including India. To be read with this is the fact that when in last July an Indian prime minister visited Israel for the first time, he did not visit Palestine. The upcoming football friendly with Argentina is also a part of this diplomatic effort. And it is on recognizing this vicious tactic that Lionel Messi's fans are asking him not to participate in the match by way of declaring solidarity with the Palestinians. The sad fact is that those who steer global politics do not display the political discretion shown by football fans.
Ever since the 2014 military operation, it is for the first time that such a high number of Palestinians are killed on a single day. The Palestine natives, denied food and water over ten years and forced to live in ramshackle camps, are going to have yet another Ramadan of misery and privation – which seems to be the destiny for this population for several years. But it remains a fact that none of that has sapped their morale. That is why, even at the face of death tens of thousands of people flock to the border shouting anti-Israeli slogans. And that is enough reason for lovers of humanity to be in solidarity with this struggle.
