Nothing to say on Ganesh issue: Chandy

New Delhi: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Tuesday declined to comment on the recent controversy over Government Chief Whip P C George's charge that state Forest Minister K B Ganesh Kumar was beaten up by the husband of a lady with whom he had an affair.

Chandy, when cornered by reporters, said he had nothing to say on the issue.

Leader of the Opposition V S Achuthanandan on Monday had asked Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to break his silence on the issue.

In an embarrassment to ruling Congress-led UDF, government chief whip P C George Sunday cast Forest Minister K B Ganesh Kumar in poor light seizing on a newspaper report that "a minister in the state Cabinet was beaten up by the husband of a lady with whom he had an affair".

Referring to a report in a Malayalam daily without naming the minister, George, who belongs to Kerala Congress (M), had said Ganesh Kumar was the person mentioned and he was revealing this to ensure the public would not suspect other cabinet members.

Reacting sharply to George's charge, Ganesh Kumar told reporters that he would initiate legal action against him for his "malicious" move.

Asserting that no such incident had occurred, he said it was painful to see the government chief whip stooping to such a level.
