Thiruvananthapuram: The government Chief Whip P C George Tuesday lashed out at Minister for Forests and Environment K B Ganesh Kumar accusing him of misinforming the Assembly of the reclaiming of the estate lands that have violated the title deed agreements.
Ganesh Kumar, while replying a charge raised by V Chenthamarakshan MLA, told the Assembly that the government was ready to reclaim such estates.
“Not even a piece of land will be given to private parties. The government is not negligent of reclaiming estates that have violated the title deed agreements. Reports that say the government is purposefully not being up to the snuff in such cases are not incorrect,” the minister said.
The Opposition had accused the government of helping the estate owners by decisively failing in cases related to violation of title deed agreements. It also accused Chief Whip P C George being behind the move.
Talking to the press here, P C George said that what Ganesh Kumar said in the Assembly was incorrect. “The Minister is acting as if he is beyond the United Democratic Front. I will approach the UDF and the KPCC seeking action against him,” he said. Mr George added that the adjournment motion raised by the Opposition was sponsored by Ganesh Kumar.
Meanwhile the Minister reiterated that he would stick to what he said in the Assembly.
The rift between the two leaders seems to be providing a new tool to the Opposition to bombard the government that has already been in trouble over certain other issues.
Furthermore, the Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan demanded a legislative committee to be formed to enquire into the matter. The Opposition also staged a walkout over the issue.
