Chennai: India, which is perched on the top of the world chess map, thanks to Grand Master Viswanathan Anand reigning as the invincible world champion, will host eight international open tournaments in a year here.
The decision to this effect was taken by All India Chess Federation (AICF) at its Annual General Body meeting here.
The first four events would be in Delhi, Chennai (Open), Orissa Open and the Mayors Cup in Mumbai, AICF Secretary Bharat Singh announced today.
The remaining four events will be played in Nagpur, Pune, Gurgaon and in Andhra Pradesh, the AICF announced, addin another significant decision taken at the meeting was that the2650 ELO rating cut off to be selected for the national team has been abolished.
